Our leading immigration lawyers are winningly adept with marriage visitor visa applications. We can help you if you want to enter into a marriage or civil partnership in the UK. The UK Marriage Visitor visa, also referred to as Marriage Visit visa, permits foreign nationals to come to the UK to get married, enter a civil partnership or to notify of the intention to do so.

Marriage Visitor visas are valid for up to 6 months. You cannot stay or settle in the UK once the visa has expired.

You must apply for a Marriage Visitor visa if:

  • You want to get married or register a civil partnership in the UK
  • You want to give notice of a marriage or civil partnership in UK
  • You’re not planning to stay or settle in the UK after your marriage or civil partnership
  • You meet the other eligibility requirements

The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel. You should get a decision on your visa within 3 weeks when you apply from outside the UK.

A Marriage Visitor visa is not necessary for you to get married or enter a civil partnership in the UK if:

    • You have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
    • You have applied to the EU Settlement Scheme, and are awaiting a decision
    • You’re an Irish citizen

A Marriage Visitor visa allows you to:

  • Marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK within 6 months of your arrival
  • You must do this at a licensed venue
  • Pass through the UK in transit on your way to another country

It does NOT allow you to:

  • Access public funds, such as benefits
  • Bring in family members or dependants with your Marriage Visitor visa. If you wish to bring family members with you to the UK, they must apply for their own visa separately
  • Live in the UK for extended periods through frequent visits
  • Extend your visa or switch to another visa
  • Work – except for permitted activities related to your work or business overseas, such as attending meetings
